The Darkroom Project: South Bend

The flyer I posted yesterday is advertising one of two openings we'll be having in just a few weeks.  So far, this trip has been better than anything I could have dreamed up.  We are collaborating with Goodwill to offer one program and St.Margaret's House, women's day center, on the other.  At both locations, we are working with participants that are from diverse backgrounds with low income.  Though it has only been a few days, and we are all still getting to know each other, the depth of their backgrounds and the stories of who they were and who they are has been completely inspiring.

I find that I love each of our participants already.  I feel like it is the greatest privilege I have ever received to empower them and help them gain the skills they need to photograph their stories and struggles.  The fact that they have invited us in to their lives in such a personal way and are willing to share in a gallery with others is humbling.

We will be taking black and white portraits on Friday.  Some are excited, others nervous, but we are thrilled we have the opportunity to capture the beauty we see in each one.
